My 11 Spiritual Truths

Here on the eve of my 25th birthday, I wanted to share some of the guiding spiritual truths that govern my sacred and beautiful life. These truths have been the thoughts and essence of who I am and it is my joy to share them with you.

1. There are Spiritual Laws that govern our world. Learn them. Adhere to them. Then and only then will you align yourself with true power and operate in love as you co-create your life with God.

2. Only you have the power to change your life. No external force can propel you forward. You may be inspired, but even that is fleeting. Surrender yourself to a higher power and be guided into a fuller existence.

3. You cannot be successful if you are not serving humanity. Find meaning and the money will come. Success based entirely on acquiring money or material things will not add unto you. True wealth supersedes these things. Seek the kingdom first.

4. Let your thoughts be governed by love. Think on the good and the beautiful and the true. Release all thoughts that do not serve you well.

5. All things are rooted in the spiritual. For every problem there is a spiritual solution.

6. We are all the same. Our separateness is a great illusion. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" because they are you and you are them. "Love your neighbor as you love yourself" because you and your neighbor are one.

7. Do good and good will come to you. This great truth is always in effect. You get what you give.

8. Love is all there is. Our existence is about merging into that love. Love heals. Love restores. Love liberates. Love is nonjudgmental. Love is unconditional. Love is eternal. Love is God. Love is you and me.

9. Death is not the end. I am an infinite, spiritual being having a temporal, human experience.

10. I am not my circumstance. No matter what happens to me in life, I am not defined by it — good or bad.

11. With God, ALL things are possible. Place no limitations on yourself.

your life is sacred: honoring every moment

on this day, exactly eleven years ago today, my mother entered the Baptist for her second mastectomy. the cancer was vicious, relentless, and evidently insatiably hungry for the life of my mother. She had already had the other breast removed and she went into this surgery confident that it would be best.  i remember her strength and her faith most vividly during this week. i also remember her strongly rejecting my request for funds to purchase a new shirt for the pastor's appreciation that was coming up that Friday. i'm not sure if my mother knew this was her last week on earth. there were no "final conversations" or any discussion of what was next for our lives without her.  she would leave behind her four children, her dreams, and ultimately, a life well-lived that same night of the pastor's appreciation, which also happened to be All Saints Day. my mother's life, her struggle with breast cancer, and her early demise at thirty-three helps def...

summer GROWTH

you know growing up, one of the things i always looked forward to was the summertime. not only because of the time out of school, but because i thought summer was a time to grow -- physically. in the fall, I would be amazed at how much taller my peers had grown. Apparently, the summer wasn't as giving to me.       nowadays, i still think of the summer as a time of growth but on a whole other level... mentally. every summer, i set a goal to read at least 100 books (don't ask me if they all get read), i watch documentaries and do other mind stimulating activities. however, i still give myself all of the rest and relaxation I need.      one thing i am certain of is this, you may not be able to control your physical growth, but you can control growth in other areas of your life. mental, spiritual, and financial growth, to name a few, also takes time, but they depend solely on you. where ar...

forgiveness v. the pain

WE have all been hurt by someone we love or someone who said they wouldn't do the very thing they would go on to do. The pain that followed ensured us that we could not afford to put our trust or give our heart fully to anyone. We wrestle with moving forward because the pain has left us in chains.  And there is nothing that can break the chains except for forgiveness. My favorite definition of forgiveness is "giving up the hope that the past could have been any different." I don't know who originally said that, but I'll attribute it to Ms. Winfrey, since she is the one I first heard it from. Although forgiveness is a process, it is one that must be completed in order to live freely.  I'm reminded of a childhood experience of physical abuse that I encountered when I was almost 2. It occurred by the hands of my mother's husband. I still remember that dreadful morning and still bear the furnace scars to show for it. I knew then that although i had been s...
