can these dry bones live?

ARE you alive? I mean, yes I know you're breathing and hopefully in the best of health, but how alive do you feel? And even more so, what feeling do you feel more than any other? If I could narrow those feelings down for you to two, fear and love, which would be more dominant? Are you living the life of your dreams or are you stuck in a reality that feels, well, dead...

I am not here to give you answers, I'm here just to ask the questions I am currently asking myself in order to experience a fuller life.

Every day we get a chance to breathe new life into our dreams. And just like a fire burning low, It is imperative to fan the flames to keep the fire ablaze. It's easy to become disillusioned by the magnitude of your dreams. The fear of failure doesn't help and keeps us at the starting line of the race.

But you see, beloved, I have come to believe that the only person we're ever really competing with is ourselves. Stop wanting your success to look like someone else's. Aim for the best of yourself and from yourself.

I'm still getting that lesson.

Aha moment — no, I cannot be Oprah or even duplicate the kind of success she has had in the world. No need to try to duplicate it either. All I have to do is stay authentically aware and truthful as to what I really, really want and who I really, really am. And yes, I still want to host my own spiritual talk show on Ms. Winfrey's OWN. If I was completely honest, I could have that talk show right now on this little channel called YouTube.

You have to start somewhere, right? But even more so, you have to start. The list of things I would like to accomplish is already written. It is long, detailed, and varied. However, what is more important is the surrendering of that list to GOD, praying that the things I want to accomplish are aligned with His highest hopes for my life.

Yes, GOD has high hopes for all of us —chief among them to help heal the world with loving thoughts and actions. Plug into the source of all sources and rest assured that when you surrender your will to His perfect will for your life, things will begin to make sense.

In her latest book, The Law of Divine Compensation, Marianne Williamson offers this prayer:

"Dear GOD,
I surrender to you who I am, what I have and what I do.
May my life and talents be used in whatever way serves You best.
I surrender to You my failures and any pain still in my heart.
I surrender to You my successes, and the hopes that they contain.
May the Light of Your Love shine deep within my heart, and extend through me to bless the world.
Amen."

This is my sincere prayer for you as well as myself as we move into doing exactly what we're suppose to be doing with our lives.

your life is sacred: honoring every moment

on this day, exactly eleven years ago today, my mother entered the Baptist for her second mastectomy. the cancer was vicious, relentless, and evidently insatiably hungry for the life of my mother. She had already had the other breast removed and she went into this surgery confident that it would be best.  i remember her strength and her faith most vividly during this week. i also remember her strongly rejecting my request for funds to purchase a new shirt for the pastor's appreciation that was coming up that Friday. i'm not sure if my mother knew this was her last week on earth. there were no "final conversations" or any discussion of what was next for our lives without her.  she would leave behind her four children, her dreams, and ultimately, a life well-lived that same night of the pastor's appreciation, which also happened to be All Saints Day. my mother's life, her struggle with breast cancer, and her early demise at thirty-three helps def...

summer GROWTH

you know growing up, one of the things i always looked forward to was the summertime. not only because of the time out of school, but because i thought summer was a time to grow -- physically. in the fall, I would be amazed at how much taller my peers had grown. Apparently, the summer wasn't as giving to me.       nowadays, i still think of the summer as a time of growth but on a whole other level... mentally. every summer, i set a goal to read at least 100 books (don't ask me if they all get read), i watch documentaries and do other mind stimulating activities. however, i still give myself all of the rest and relaxation I need.      one thing i am certain of is this, you may not be able to control your physical growth, but you can control growth in other areas of your life. mental, spiritual, and financial growth, to name a few, also takes time, but they depend solely on you. where ar...

forgiveness v. the pain

WE have all been hurt by someone we love or someone who said they wouldn't do the very thing they would go on to do. The pain that followed ensured us that we could not afford to put our trust or give our heart fully to anyone. We wrestle with moving forward because the pain has left us in chains.  And there is nothing that can break the chains except for forgiveness. My favorite definition of forgiveness is "giving up the hope that the past could have been any different." I don't know who originally said that, but I'll attribute it to Ms. Winfrey, since she is the one I first heard it from. Although forgiveness is a process, it is one that must be completed in order to live freely.  I'm reminded of a childhood experience of physical abuse that I encountered when I was almost 2. It occurred by the hands of my mother's husband. I still remember that dreadful morning and still bear the furnace scars to show for it. I knew then that although i had been s...
