DEAR SPIRITUAL ANTHROPOLOGY READERS

AN OPEN LETTER TO YOU

June 2, 2013

I want to open this letter by saying thank you. Thank you for supporting Spiritual Anthropology by taking the time to read my thoughts and insights as often as I post them. My life is richer because I know that you are there, reading while eating your oatmeal like Ja'Leasa, drinking your coffee like Kim, urging all your friends to read the blog like Z'kera, and giving me the most insightful feedback like Chantal and the many other of you who support this work. Today my heart is overflowing with gratitude and humility on this 3rd year anniversary of the blog.

Spiritual Anthropology is more about you than it is about me. I mean that. I firmly believe that when one person shares his/her truth, they give others the space to do the same. It is truth that makes us free enough to live fully and with love, and courage. Truth makes it possible for peace to come in, as well as the light.

Imagine a more truthful world. Do you believe that's possible? I know I do. Not only is it possible, i'm utterly convinced that it is inevitable. We will evolve and grow into our highest, most loving selves. Why, because that is who we really are. That is the matter from which we all are made. God made us in His image and in His likeness, so when we wake up to the truth of that, we will operate in the fullness of our power because we know our Source.

Let your heart sit with that for a moment.

I want you to know that the dreams God has placed in your heart are not meant to stay there. They are meant to exist as a physical, seeable thing in the Earth, according to your faith. Everybody wants to know what their purpose is, their reason for being. I'm here to tell you today that God has given you everything you need to live an abundant life. He is constantly providing you with the experiences to help you grow and the people to affirm and confirm the good works He has started in you. All He ask is that you have the faith to ask, believe, and claim that which He has set aside for you and you alone.

Stop doubting yourself, because in doing so you are doubting God. All you need is the faith the size of a mustard seed, but God wants you to have as much faith as possible. Some Mountains you have to climb, but more often than not, you can command them into the sea. Yes, you have that power. The power to speak things into existence as well as command them into nonexistence. What are you commanding in faith?

I have been blessed enough to be aware enough to know that my life is about service. All the beautiful gifts and talents that God have bequeathed me with are there to uplift and inspire, to challenge and encourage, but most of all, to love unconditionally.

This is my joy and purpose --- the reason that Spiritual Anthropology, as well as all subsequent endeavors, exists.

I love you for real, and thank you for reading.

your life is sacred: honoring every moment

on this day, exactly eleven years ago today, my mother entered the Baptist for her second mastectomy. the cancer was vicious, relentless, and evidently insatiably hungry for the life of my mother. She had already had the other breast removed and she went into this surgery confident that it would be best.  i remember her strength and her faith most vividly during this week. i also remember her strongly rejecting my request for funds to purchase a new shirt for the pastor's appreciation that was coming up that Friday. i'm not sure if my mother knew this was her last week on earth. there were no "final conversations" or any discussion of what was next for our lives without her.  she would leave behind her four children, her dreams, and ultimately, a life well-lived that same night of the pastor's appreciation, which also happened to be All Saints Day. my mother's life, her struggle with breast cancer, and her early demise at thirty-three helps def...

summer GROWTH

you know growing up, one of the things i always looked forward to was the summertime. not only because of the time out of school, but because i thought summer was a time to grow -- physically. in the fall, I would be amazed at how much taller my peers had grown. Apparently, the summer wasn't as giving to me.       nowadays, i still think of the summer as a time of growth but on a whole other level... mentally. every summer, i set a goal to read at least 100 books (don't ask me if they all get read), i watch documentaries and do other mind stimulating activities. however, i still give myself all of the rest and relaxation I need.      one thing i am certain of is this, you may not be able to control your physical growth, but you can control growth in other areas of your life. mental, spiritual, and financial growth, to name a few, also takes time, but they depend solely on you. where ar...

forgiveness v. the pain

WE have all been hurt by someone we love or someone who said they wouldn't do the very thing they would go on to do. The pain that followed ensured us that we could not afford to put our trust or give our heart fully to anyone. We wrestle with moving forward because the pain has left us in chains.  And there is nothing that can break the chains except for forgiveness. My favorite definition of forgiveness is "giving up the hope that the past could have been any different." I don't know who originally said that, but I'll attribute it to Ms. Winfrey, since she is the one I first heard it from. Although forgiveness is a process, it is one that must be completed in order to live freely.  I'm reminded of a childhood experience of physical abuse that I encountered when I was almost 2. It occurred by the hands of my mother's husband. I still remember that dreadful morning and still bear the furnace scars to show for it. I knew then that although i had been s...
