go after your dreams

SO, we all have them, right? Dreams so big that they frighten us. These dreams can seem daunting because they challenge us to grow into them. Not to mention the hard work that is required to bring them into fruition. How hard are you willing to work for your dreams? Well, that hard work should begin with addressing your fears. Marianne Williamson writes in her spiritual classic, A Return to Love, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you   not   to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it...

your life is always speaking to you

the echo of life  A man and his son were walking in the forest. Suddenly the   boy trips and feeling a sharp pain he screams, "Ahhhhh."   Surprised, he hears a voice coming from the mountain,   "Ahhhhh!"   Filled with curiosity, he screams: "Who are you?", but the   only answer he receives is: "Who are you?"   This makes him angry, so he screams: "You are a coward!",   and the voice answers: "You are a coward!"   He looks at his father, asking, "Dad, what is going on?"   "Son," the man replies, "pay attention!" Then he screams,   "I admire you!"   The voice answers: "I admire you!"   The father shouts, "You are wonderful!", and the voice   answers: "You are wonderful!"   The boy is surprised, but still can't understand what is   going on.   Then the father explains, "People call this 'ECHO', but   truly it is 'LIFE!' your life: are you paying attention?

Your life is  always speaking to you— calling you to grow into your highest self. The test in the form of difficult circumstances are there to teach you the lesson you need to learn the most. There are no insignificant lessons and when you see everything as a lesson, you'll DIG DEEP to find out what's being taught at that particular instance; at that present moment.  The concept of "dig deep" on which Spiritual Anthropology is built, is about looking beyond the surface and realizing that for every problem, there is a spiritual lesson being taught. And when you get down to the very root of it, we're all trying to get back to love, to God... to source. We act out of our hurt. Our anger is just a by-product of that. Fear, jealously, insecurity, self-doubt, and all other feelings of unworthiness are indicators— the writing on the blackboard, if you will.  Class is always in session.  When you begin to pay attention to your life, you become aware of t...

the best advice comes from deep within

I wrote this n ote a few years ago to a young lady I've known for quite some time. It was only recently that I stumbled upon it in my Facebook inbox. It inspired me, so I decided to share it with my Spiritual Anthropology readers . Hello my sister. First of all, know that the best is already inside of you. When God created you, he made sure that you had everything you needed to thrive in life. You first have to make a sincere decision that you want to be the best you can be. After making that decision, imagine yourself at your best...how do you perform at school? How do you treat your body (what type of foods do your best self eat)? What type of sister, daughter, and friend are you? How is your spirituality (your connection with God)? Remember, we're not talking about how you are now, but how you hope to be. That is the first step and I know its a lot to digest.  The truth is there we always be moments when we doubt ourselves and our potential. However, we must have fait...

words from the wise...

“I don't know if I continue, even today, always liking myself. But what I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, 'well, if I'd known better I'd have done better,' that's all. So you say to people who you think you may have injured, 'I'm sorry,' and then you say to yourself, 'I'm sorry.' If we all hold on to the mistake, we can't see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can't see what we're capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one's own self. I think that young men and women are so caught by the way they see themselves. Now mind you, when a larger society sees them as unattractive, a...

forgiveness v. the pain

WE have all been hurt by someone we love or someone who said they wouldn't do the very thing they would go on to do. The pain that followed ensured us that we could not afford to put our trust or give our heart fully to anyone. We wrestle with moving forward because the pain has left us in chains.  And there is nothing that can break the chains except for forgiveness. My favorite definition of forgiveness is "giving up the hope that the past could have been any different." I don't know who originally said that, but I'll attribute it to Ms. Winfrey, since she is the one I first heard it from. Although forgiveness is a process, it is one that must be completed in order to live freely.  I'm reminded of a childhood experience of physical abuse that I encountered when I was almost 2. It occurred by the hands of my mother's husband. I still remember that dreadful morning and still bear the furnace scars to show for it. I knew then that although i had been s...

getting quiet enough to hear

What is your soul trying to say to you? Go ahead, ask yourself aloud. Contemplate this question and when you're ready, enter the silence where God speaks. The answer that will come will be one that first requires you to surrender your worries and fears. Their noise is too deafening. Give yourself over to complete faith that the divine is concerned with your existence and cares about the quality of your life. Moreover, He has given you an express purpose to fulfill during your time here on the planet. Complete faith does not ask for confirmation and/or evidence, neither does it require a miraculous sign. It just steps out on to water and begins to walk. The nature of the soul is expansiveness and infiniteness. It opens to all that is and will ever be. When your life is led by the soul force, you operate in the full knowledge of your purpose. The thing that your soul wants you to know the most will be the thing that frees you to do the most good. All of us enters existence w...
